The Rock Women's Tennis team set a school record for total wins in a season defeating Millersville University 5-0 at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Team Championships held at Bloomsburg University. The sweep of Millersville gave SRU 22 wins on the year and a third place showing at the Championships.
The 22 wins surpass the record previously held by the 2002-03 team that owned an overall record of 21-3. The Rock now holds a 22-5 record overall.
The Rock Women bounced back after loosing 5-3 to Bloomsburg University in the PSAC semi-finals match which sent the Green and White to the consolation round.
The team of Kayla Blackburn and Laura Handy got things started off for The Rock as they defeated Christy Lilli and Melissa Berg 8-2 in the number one doubles match.
The teams of Ashley Greene / Jessica Hilborn, and Lara Rizzi / Christina Rhodes both recorded wins in number two and number three doubles action Saturday. Greene and Hilborn came away with an 8-5 victory, while the team of Rizzi and Rhodes came away with an 8-2 victory.
Only two members of The Rock singles team competed in Saturday's PSAC Championship action. Kayla Blackburn won her match 6-1, 6-1, and Ashley Hillborn won her match 6-0, 6-0 to complete the 5-0 sweep over Millersville.
The Rock anticipates receiving a bid to the NCAA Division II East Regional Tournament. The tournament is scheduled to begin on May 5 and run through the 7th. The location and times are still to be determined.
