Clarion, Pa. -
The Rock swept a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division doubleheader from hosting Clarion by 10-1 and 5-3 scores on Friday to move into third place in the division standings.
That position is significant in that the top three teams in each of the PSAC's two divisions earn berths in the conference tournament.
SRU has not participated in PSAC postseason competition since 1982.
Friday's wins are also significant in that SRU, which now has a 21-17 overall record (7-7 PSAC-West), has reached the 20-win milestone for the third successive season.
Prior to last spring's 20-24 final record, SRU had never even had back-to-back 20-win seasons, let alone three straight.
The Rock will look to add to its victory total and move into second place in the PSAC-West standings when it hosts California U. of Pa. in a 1 p.m. twinbill Saturday.
California is currently 11-13 overall and 8-6 in PSAC-West action and one game ahead of SRU in the division standings.
Meghan McHenry was 3-for-3 with two RBIs to lead a 13-hit Rock attack in the first game of Friday's twinbill. Alicia Dixon added a pair of hits and collected three RBIs, while winning pitcher Lisa Getgen picked up a pair of RBIs.
Stacey Rhoades had a double and Jessica Kortz and Courtney Vincent had a triple each to account for SRU's Game 1 extra base hits.
Getgen allowed one earned run on three hits, struck out five and walked one in five innings before Rhoades pitched a scoreless and hitless final frame of the abbreviated game.
Sheree Horvath smacked a three-run home run to key a five-run first-inning eruption that carried SRU to victory in Game 2.
McHenry added a one-out triple in the second inning, but was stranded there. She and Kayla Ray each finished the game with a pair of hits.
Liz Pittman allowed three earned runs on seven hits, struck out six and walked one in a complete-game pitching effort in Friday's second game.
