Clarion, Pa. - Dan Hudeck swung a big stick Friday afternoon to lead The Rock to a 12-6, 6-4 doubleheader sweep of hosting Clarion in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division action.

Hudeck had the game-winning RBI in both games. His grand slam home run -- his second HR of the game -- keyed a seven-run, sixth-inning rally in Game 1. He finished that game with four hits in five at bats and six RBIs. In addition to his two roundtrippers -- which gives him a team-high four for the season -- Hudeck had a double.

Hudeck was hitless in Game 2 until he singled in the top of the seventh inning to push across the eventual game-winning tally.

Billy Herman was 3-for-5 with two RBIs to complement Hudeck's first-game effort, while Phil Butch, M.J. Parsons and Rich Michalek each had a pair of hits in SRU's 15-hit attack. Parsons and Billy Messer had a double each.

Scott Bender paced The Rock's 11-hit attack in Game 2 with a 3-for-4 performance, while Butch and Herman each added a pair of hits. Butch had two RBIs; Bender, Hudeck and Matt Adams picked up one RBI each and Herman had a double.

Derek Blyzwick (3-2) scattered nine hits, allowed four earned runs, struck out six and walked three en route to his third complete game of the season in Game 1.

Mike DeCola (2-0), the third and final pitcher used by Rock head coach Jeff Messer, was the Game 2 winner. He struck out one in oen and one-third scoreless and hitless innings.

Rock starting pitcher Vince Lloyd allowed four runs (three earned) on four hits, struck out five and walked four in the first three and two-thirds innings.

Tom Turnbull then allowed two hits and walked on in two innings.

Friday's sweep came on the heels of four successive twinbill splits by Rock and improved the Green and White's overall record to 24-12 and its PSAC-West mark to 9-5.

SRU remains in third place in the PSAC-West standings, one game off the pace being set by co-leaders California U. of Pa. (26-11, 10-4) and Shippensburg (20-15, 10-4) and three games ahead of fourth-place Indiana U. of Pa. (15-25, 6-8).

The Rock and Clarion will close out their four-game season series with a 3:30 p.m. twinbill Saturday at Jack Critchfield Park.

A Rock sweep on Saturday, coupled with at least one loss by Indiana in its twinbill vs. California, will assure SRU of a berth in the PSAC tournament, which The Rock will host May 2-5.
