Rock settles for split at Wheeling Jesuit

Wheeling, W. Va. - For the fourth time in as many doubleheaders, The Rock had to settle for a split Thursday in non-conference action at Wheeling Jesuit.

The Rock rolled to a 10-1 win in Game 1, then dropped a 5-2 decision in Game 2.

The split gives SRU a 22-12 overall record heading into Friday's 1 p.m. doubleheader at Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division rival Clarion.

M.J. Parsons was 3-for-3 and collected three RBIs to pace an 11-hit winning Rock attack in Game 1. Matt Adams and Dan Hudeck (double) each added a pair of hits.

Sean Holliday was SRU's Game 1 starting and winning pitcher. He allowed one earned run on four hits, struck out two and walked one in the first five innings.

Josh Smith pitched two scoreless and hitless innings and walked two batters to finish up.

Adams (double) and Jacob Oswalt had two hits each to lead a nine-hit Rock attack in Game 2, while Parsons had a double and collected two more RBIs and Dan Hudeck had a double.

Matt Lynn allowed three earned runs on seven hits, struck out one and walked two in the first four innings and was tagged with the Game 2 loss. Josh Smith allowed two earned runs on three hits, struck out one and walked one in the final two innings.

After visiting Clarion on Friday, The Rock will host the Golden Eagles in a 3:30 p.m. Alumni Day twinbill Saturday at Jack Critchfield Park.

Note: The Rock's non-conference doubleheader at Mansfield, scheduled for Sunday, has been cancelled due to a schedule conflict on the part of the Mounties.
