Lock Haven, Pa. -
The Rock proved to be no match for NCAA Division II national champion and current No. 1-ranked Lock Haven on Friday as the hosting Bald Eagles swept a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division doubleheader by 8-0 and 9-3 scores.
The losses dropped SRU's overall record to 14-16 and its PSAC-West mark to 1-7.
Lock Haven is now 32-1, 10-0.
Bald Eagles standout Kristen Erb tossed a one-hit shutout in Game 1 before SRU pounded out nine hits against two LHU hurlers in Game 2.
The only Rock hit off Erb, last year's national Player of the Year, was a two-out infield single by Kayla Ray in the third inning.
Erb (24-0) also helped her own cause with a 2-for-3, four-RBI offensive effort in the five-inning game (halted in accordance with the "mercy rule.").
Courtney Vincent had three hits and one stolen base to lead The Rock's Game 2 effort, while Jessica Kortz had a pair of hits, including a double, and Meghan McHenry had an RBI triple.
Vincent led off the game with a bunt single and came around to score on an RBI ground out by Stacey Rhoades to give SRU a 1-0 lead.
Lock Haven responded with four runs in the bottom of the first, though, and never looked back.
An RBI single by Emily Novitsky immediately following Kortz' third-inning, two-out double plated SRU's second run.
McHenry's two-out triple in the fourth frame brought home Vincent, who had singled, with The Rock's final tally.
Lisa Getgen allowed eight earned runs on nine hits and walked two in four innings of work in the Game 1 and saw her season record fall to 4-5.
Sheree Horvath (2-3) was SRU's Game 2 starting and losing pitcher. She allowed nine earned runs on nine hits and did not record a strikeout or issue a base on balls in the first five innings.
Courtney Conron walked one in a scoreless, hitless sixth inning.
The Rock is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, when it will host Edinboro in an 11 a.m. doubleheader. Please note that this game time is two hours earlier than the twinbill was originally scheduled to start.
