The Rock softball team improved their record to (11-11 overall, 1-3 PSAC-W) with a
1-1 split against PSAC West rival Indiana University of Pa.
It was all home runs that would account for The Rock's runs in game 1 as the day started out with Stacey Rhodes hitting a two-shot home run in the first inning, and Kayla Ray hitting a solo shot in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Rhodes two-run HR accounted for over half of The Rock's run total on the day as SRU was only able to generate three runs.
The Rock would rebound in game two with an 8-7 victory over rival IUP.
The second game started out with Stacey Rhodes singled to first driving in Courtney Vincent who singled to lead off the inning. The Rock was ahead 1-0 at the end of the first inning.
SRU would take a 3-0 lead over the Crimson Hawks when Sheree Horvath lead off with a solo home run and Kayla Ray drove in Danielle Abbrano with a single.
Those would be the only runs The Rock would see until the bottom of the sixth inning. SRU was faced with a 7-3 deficit going into the sixth. Danielle Abbrano lead off with a solo home run for The Rock.
Kayla Ray would reach first with a single. Ray would advance to second after Rhodes reached first with an error by IUP short stop, Jaci Banton.
Amber Phillips would follow with another single for The Rock advancing Rhodes to third. Meghan McHenry would drive in Rhodes with a single to make the score 7-6 in favor of IUP.
Lisa Getgen would have the hit of the day for The Rock as she drove in Amber Phillips and Whittney Warmus with a double to give SRU an 8-7 lead after the sixth inning.
Getgen would get the win for The Rock in game two.
The Rock will be back in action on April 1st when they take on Shepherd at Shepherdstown, W. Va, in a double header beginning at 1 p.m.
