Slippery Rock, Pa. -
Stacey Rhoades provided The Rock with the necessary jumpstart Tuesday to record a doubleheader sweep vs. visiting Ursuline College of Ohio.
The Rock's leadoff hitter, Rhoades smacked a solo home run in her first at-bat in both games and The Rock never looked back en route to a 6-0, 2-1 sweep of the Arrows.
Rhoades, who now has six HRs this spring, was also the winning pitcher in Game 2 -- her first mound duty of the season -- with a two-hit complete-game effort.
Kaelin Mancuso's one-out solo HR in the bottom of the second inning proved to be the game-winning hit in Game 2, which was halted after six innings due to darkness.
The sweep was SRU's second in the last three days and fourth in five doubleheaders this spring and improved the NCAA Division II Green and White's season record to 10-8.
Ursuline, an NAIA school located in suburban Cleveland, got swept for the third time in as many days and saw its season record drop to 5-10.
Kim Weindel collected a pair of RBIs in Game 1, while Amber Phillips was 2-for-2 and was the only Rock player to have more than one hit in SRU's eight-hit attack. Both Phillips and Weindel had a double in the game to join Rhoades in the extra-base-hit column.
Courtney Conron scattered five hits, struck out four and walked two in a complete-game pitching effort in Game 1.
Rhoades had two hits in Game 2 to lead a five-hit Rock attack; she was the only SRU player with more than one hit. The HRs by Rhoades and Mancuso were the only extra-base hits of the game for SRU.
The Rock is idle until Friday, when it travels to Edinboro for a 2 p.m. doubleheader to open the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division schedule.
The Green and White then host Indiana U. of Pa. in another PSAC-West twinbill at 1 p.m. Saturday.
