Feb. 7, 2007

Final Stats

Slippery Rock, Pa. - Glenn Reepmeyer joined an elite group of Rock players Wednesday night when he scored his 1,000th career point, but could not lead SRU to victory.

Two-time defending Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference champion Edinboro handed The Rock a 76-64 loss in PSAC-Western Division action in Morrow Field House.

Reepmeyer reached the 1,000th-point mark when he scored his sixth point of the game Wednesday night on a free-throw attempt with 3;26 left in the first half.

He was presented a ceremonial game ball by Rock interim head coach Jamal Palmer just prior to the start of the second half of action.

Reepmeyer finished the game with 17 points and a game-high 11 rebounds and recorded his ninth "double-double" of the season. He is the only Rock player to record 10 or more points and rebounds in a game this winter.

Two other Rock players joined Reepmeyer as double-figure scorers Wednesday; Joseph Vines had a team-best 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds and Kenny Smith chipped in 12 points.

Wednesday's loss dropped SRU's overall record to 5-18 and its PSAC-West mark to 2-6. The Rock sits in the division cellar, one-half game behind sixth-place Indiana U. of Pa. (4-16, 2-5).

The Rock can move out of the basement if it can beat Indiana on Feb. 14 on the Crimson Hawks' home court. SRU is idle for one week prior to that game.

Edinboro, with the win Wednesday, held onto its No. 3 status in this year's PSAC-West battle. The Fighting Scots are 15-8 overall, 5-3 in division play.

California U. of Pa. (18-4) leads the division with a 6-1 mark, followed by Shippensburg (16-11) at 6-2 and Edinboro. Clarion (8-13) and Lock Haven (9-13) are tied for fourth place with 3-5 division marks, followed by Indiana and SRU.

The top four teams in the division at the conclusion of regular-season play will advance to the conference playoffs.

SRU seeks to make its first postseason trip since the 1999-2000 season, when The Rock garnered conference runner-up honors.

Wednesday's game

The Rock jumped out to a 5-0 lead over Edinboro and remained in the lead for the first three-plus minutes.

Neither team was able to grasp the lead for very long in the opening 20 minutes as the score was tied four times and the lead traded hands seven times prior to intermission.

Edinboro scored the final four points of the first half to take a 30-26 lead into halftime and never trailed in the second half. The largest leads for the visitors were a pair of 14-point advantages, the latter one a 66-52 score with 4:30 left to play.
