Feb. 3, 2007

Final Stats

Lock Haven, Pa. - Hosting Lock Haven outscored The Rock by a 14-4 margin in the final three minutes Saturday to record a 64-55 victory in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division action.

Amanda Nero led The Rock scoring attack with 19 points, while Dana Stewart chipped in 10 points and Nijha McNeely grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.

Saturday's loss was the fourth straight suffered by the Green and White and dropped SRU's overall record to 8-13 and its PSAC-West mark to 2-5.

Lock Haven improved its season record to 10-11 and its division mark to 3-4.

The Rock and Lock Haven entered the game tied with Clarion for fifth place in the seven-team PSAC-West.

With the loss, SRU now faces an uphill battle in its quest to finish in the top four of the division and earn a second successive trip to the conference playoffs.

SRU will attempt to end its losing skid and enhance its playoff hopes when it entertains Edinboro in a 6 p.m. game on Wednesday.

Saturday's game

The Rock and Lock Haven battled on even terms for the first 37 minutes of action before the hosts kicked in the afterburners to speed away to victory.

Lock Haven led by two points, 28-26, at halftime and extended its advantage to eight points (35-27) 90 seconds into the second half of action.

SRU eventually erased the deficit, then tied the game and took a 51-50 lead on an old-fashioned three-point play by KellyAnn Staudinger with 3:18 left to play.

That proved to be the extent of any Rock comeback, though, as SRU scored only four points in the final 198 seconds.
