Rock falls at Cheyney, 70-50

Jan. 7, 2007

Final Stats

Cheyney, Pa. - Joseph Vines had team-high totals of 14 points and seven rebounds Sunday afternoon in The Rock's 70-50 loss at Cheyney.

The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference "crossover" setback was the fourth straight loss for SRU, which will take a 3-10 record into Wednesday's PSAC-Western Division opener vs. Lock Haven (8 p.m. in Morrow Field House).

Sunday's point total was the lowest of the season for SRU and the lowest since SRU scored only 34 points in a loss Feb. 18, 2005, at Shippensburg.

The Rock held a 3-2 lead on a three-point shot by Erroll Robinson 90 seconds into action Sunday, but were down by 14 points (36-22) at halftime.

Cheyney extended its lead to 20 points after two minutes of action in the second half and never led by less than 20 points the remainder of the game.

The largest lead of the game was a 29-point (59-30) margin with 8:15 left to play.

Vines was the only Rock player to score 10 or more points. Robinson and Troy Yonkers each grabbed five rebounds to complement Vines' backboard effort.

After hosting Lock Haven on Wednesday, The Rock will embark on a three-game road trip before returning home on Jan. 24 to host division rival Indiana U. of Pa.
