Glenn Reepmeyer recorded team-high totals of 11 points and nine rebounds Wednesday night in a losing cause as The Rock dropped a 70-57 decision to visiting Clarion in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division action in Morrow Field House.
Jamar Scales added nine points and seven rebounds, while Joseph Vines finished with nine points and six rebounds for SRU, which suffered its seventh straight loss.
Wednesday's outcome dropped The Rock (4-17 overall, 1-5 PSAC-West) into the division cellar, one game behind both Clarion (7-12, 2-4) and Indiana U. of Pa. (4-14, 2-4).
California U. of Pa. (16-4, 5-1) leads the PSAC-West standings at the midway mark of the 2006-07 season, followed by two-time defending PSAC champion Edinboro (14-7) and preseason division favorite Shippensburg (13-11, 4-2). Lock Haven (9-11, 3-3) is in fourth place, one game ahead of Clarion and Indiana and two games up on The Rock.
SRU travels to Lock Haven for a 3 p.m. game on Saturday before entertaining Edinbor next Wednesday, Feb. 7, in an 8 p.m. game.
The Rock and Clarion battled on even terms for the first 30 minutes of Wednesday's game as the score was tied seven times and the lead changed hands 12 times before the visitors took the lead for good, 47-46, with 10 minutes left to play.
Clarion then scored 23 of the final 36 points in the game.
Notes: Reepmeyer needs only 27 points to become the 19th player in Rock men's basketball history to score 1,000 career points ... With 277 points and 181 rebounds this winter, Reepmeyer needs 38 rebounds to have the best single-season rebounding total in his four-year collegiate career and 115 points to have his best scoring total ... Reepmeyer is 124 rebounds away from a spot in the top eight in career rebounding at SRU.
