Slippery Rock, Pa. - The Rock made a valiant comeback attempt Wednesday night in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division action in Morrow Field House, but could not come away with the win.

Indiana U. of Pa. never trailed in the game en route to a 76-69 win.

The loss was the fourth straight suffered by The Rock (4-14 overall, 1-2 PSAC-West).

Indiana (4-11, 2-1), which snapped a school-record 10-game losing streak a week ago, won for the second time in its last three games.

Kenny Smith paced The Rock effort and finished with a team-high 20 points, 12 of which came on 3-point shots.

Jamar Scales chipped in 14 points and a team-high eight rebounds, while Glenn Reepmeyer contributed 14 points and five rebounds.

Indiana scored the first four points of the game and had a 10-4 lead five and a half minutes into action before SRU scored six unanswered points to tie the score at 10-10 with 12:45 left in the first half.

The guests responded with a 24-6 run in the next seven-plus minutes, though, to take a 34-16 lead with five minutes left in the half.

SRU trimmed the margin to 11 (37-26) at intermission, only to see Indiana come right back with a 12-5 run in the first eight minutes of the second half to extend its lead to 18 points (49-31) with 12 minutes left in the game.

SRU made one run and trimmed the deficit to only four (66-62) with three minutes left but could not complete the comeback.

The Rock returns to action at 3 p.m. Saturday, when it will take on Shippensburg (11-11, 2-2) in a PSAC-West road game.

SRU then travels to division co-leader California U. of Pa. (14-3, 3-0) for a 6 p.m. game on Monday before returning home to entertain Clarion (5-12, 0-4) in a 6 p.m. game next Wednesday, Jan. 31.
