Final Stats
Bloomsburg, Pa. -
The Rock came back from a 15-point deficit with 12 minutes left to play and made things interesting down the stretch. But SRU could not close the deal as hosting Bloomsburg snapped a five-game losing streak with a 62-60 nailbiter Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference "crossover" action.
Bloomsburg (8-5) helped The Rock cause by missing five of six free throws in the final minute and only hitting 9 of 26 (34.6%) charity tosses in the game.
The Rock, which saw its record drop to 4-11, helped its cause at the foul line as it hit 21 of 34 free throws for a 61.8% efficiency.
The Rock shot 38.3% (18-47) from the field, while Bloomsburg hit 46.3% (25 of 54) of its shots.
Neither team took particularly good care of the basketball as The Rock committed 25 turnovers and Bloomsburg 20.
The Huskies held a slim 36-35 edge in rebounding.
Erroll Robinson led The Rock attack with 15 points and eight rebounds, while Joseph Vines added 14 points and Glenn Reepmeyer chipped in 12 points and seven rebounds.
The Rock trailed by seven points, 31-24, at halftime and was down by 15 points, 44-29, with 11:45 left to play before it started clawing its way back.
A three-point shot by Kenny Smith with 2:15 left to play trimmed the deficit to two points, 57-55. A minute and a half later (0:45), Smith hit a pair of free throws to cut the margin to only one point, 61-60.
That was the end of The Rock rally, though, as a pair of attempts to go inside to Reepmeyer for the go-ahead points down the stretch proved fruitless and Bloomsburg held on for the win.
The Rock returns to action Sunday at 3 p.m. in Mansfield, where it will play the final game of the seven-game PSAC "crossover" series against the Mounties.
