Jan. 10, 2007

Final Stats

Slippery Rock, Pa. - Glenn Reepmeyer was unstoppable Wednesday night in leading The Rock to a 79-60 win over visiting Lock Haven in the opening game of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division season.

Not even an inadvertant elbow to the eye/nose area that necessitated Reepmeyer's leaving the game for a short span of time and changing from his customary #55 jersey to #12 could deter the senior center from Ballwin, Missouri.

Reepmeyer finished the game with team-high totals of 17 points and 10 rebounds to go along with six blocked shots and three assists as SRU snapped a four-game losing streak and improved its season record to 4-10.

Wednesday's loss dropped Lock Haven's overall record to an identical 4-10 showing.

Matt Schaefer matched Reepmeyer's point total for The Rock as he, too, finished with 17 points. The sophomore point guard from Parma Heights, Ohio, also handed out a season-high seven assists and grabbed six rebounds.

Kenny Smith chipped in 10 points for SRU, while Joseph Vines contributed nine points and seven rebounds.

As a team, The Rock outrebounded Lock Haven by a 49-33 margin and further displayed its inside superiority by swatting away 10 Bald Eagles shot attempts.

The Rock scored the first five points of the game and never trailed thereafter.

SRU enjoyed a pair of 12-point advantages in the opening half of action before Lock Haven battled back to trim the margin to five, 32-27, at halftime.

The Rock enjoyed a double-digit lead throughout the final 10 minutes of action and held its largest lead of the game, a 21-point (77-56) advantage, with 3:45 left to play.

SRU will look to ride Wednesday's win in a pair of PSAC "crossover" road games this weekend.

The Rock visits Bloomsburg for a 3 p.m. contest Saturday before closing out the seven-game interdivisional series at 3 p.m. Sunday in Mansfield.

The next home game is Jan. 24 against division rival Indiana U. of Pa. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. in Morrow Field House.
