Rock rings up three wins in Shippensburg tournament

Shippensburg, Pa. - The Rock won three of four matches over the weekend in the Raider Invitational hosted by Shippensburg University to improve its season record to 19-4.

Friday, The Rock downed Anderson (S.C.) by 30-19, 30-13, 31-33 and 30-24 scores before it lost a five-set match to West Virginia State (18-30, 30-27, 22-30, 31-29, 15-13).

The loss snapped an eight-match win streak for The Rock.

SRU bounced back on Saturday to ring up 3-0 wins over both Virginia Union and Ohio Valley.

Game scores were 30-18, 30-20, 30-19 vs. Virginia Union and 30-10, 30-17, 30-15 vs. Ohio Valley.

Highlights of the respective matches included:

vs. Anderson
Anastasia Urbanik: 17 kills, two service aces and three blocks
Katie Greco: 17 kills and four blocks
Sara Kirsch: 52 assists
Gwen Oberlin: 21 digs
Jen Blasko: 11 kills, 19 digs, three blocks and two service aces

vs. West Virginia State
Urbanik: 24 kills, five blocks, seven digs and two aces
Louise Schultz: 11 kills and five blocks
Blasko: 12 kills and 24 digs
Kirsch: 50 assists, eight kills, seven blocks and eight digs

vs. Virginia Union
Urbanik: 15 kills, five blocks and three aces
Greco: 7 of 13 hitting and three blocks
Kirsch: 31 assists, six kills and seven aces

vs. Ohio Valley
Schultz: 15 kills in 18 swings with no errors
Urbanik: 7 kills on 13 swings
Kirsch: 6 kills on 9 swings, 41 assists, four aces

The Rock will host Clarion at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division match in Morrow Field House.

Notes: The Rock is ranked first in the initial NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional poll, which was released last Wednesday (Sept. 27).
