Slippery Rock, Pa. -
Nici Spamer put a corner-kick assist from Jaimi Wilson into the back of the net Sunday afternoon to give The Rock a 1-0 win over NCAA Division II Northeast Regional rival Bridgeport on Bob DiSpirito Field at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.
Spamer's goal, her first of the season, came in the 42nd minute of action and propelled SRU to its fourth win in as many outings this fall and extended The Rock's current unbeaten streak to 10 games.
The victory wasn't secure, though, until Rock freshman goalie Lauren McManus gave out from the goal mouth to make a diving block save on a 1-on-1 scoring opportunity.
The decisive save was McManus' eighth of the game and preserved her third shutout in four collegiate games.
The Rock outshot Bridgeport (1-3) by an 18-15 margin overall. Both teams had eight shots on goal.
SRU returns to action at 4 p.m. Wednesday, when it will host Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division rival Edinboro (3-1) on James W. Egli Soccer Field.
