West Chester, pa. - The Rock's offensive woes continued Wednesday afternoon as SRU failed to score a goal for the second straight game and third time in the last four outings.

Tuesday, the lack of offense resulted in a 4-0 loss at West Chester (10-2, 8-1 PSAC), the No. 2 team in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.

Despite the loss, though, SRU (6-6, 6-4) remains no worse than in fourth place in the PSAC standings and in position to earn a berth in the conference playoffs for the second successive season.

The Rock won its first PSAC title in 31 seasons a year ago.

The Rock's margin of error in this year's playoff race diminished to only three points when California defeated Kutztown in other PSAC action Wednesday.

The current conference standings show East Stroudsburg on top with 27 points, followed by West Chester with 24, The Rock and Lock Haven with 18 each and California with 15.

Lock Haven had a Wednesday night game at Millersville and, with a win or tie, would move ahead of SRU in the standings.

Conference standings are determined by a point system that awards three points for a PSAC win and one point for a conference-game tie.

The latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America Northeast Regional rankings have East Stroudsburg in the No. 2 spot, with West Chester at No. 4, Lock Haven at No. 5 and The Rock at No. 6.

Rock starting goalie Brandon McQuillen allowed recorded four saves and allowed all four WCU goals in 53-plus minutes of action before he was replaced by Brett Lelko.

The Rock will look to end its current skid (five losses in the last seven games) on Saturday, when it visits Shippensburg for a conference game.

That will be the second of four straight road conference games SRU will play before it hosts Millersville in a 4 p.m. PSAC contest Oct. 11 on James W. Egli Soccer Field.
