Final Stats
Indiana, Pa. -
Sara Kirsch, playing her final match in front of a hometown crowd, led The Rock to a 3-1 win Tuesday night over hosting Indiana U. of Pa. in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division action.
Kirsch recorded 52 kills, 12 digs, six kills and five blocks in The Rock's 30-23, 30-21, 25-30, 30-28 win over the Indians.
In the process, she led The Rock to a near match of the best start in SRU volleyball history.
Tuesday's win was SRU's 16th in 19 matches this fall, third in four PSAC-West contests.
Coupled with California's 3-0 win over Lock Haven, Tuesday's win by The Rock moved SRU into a tie for first place in the PSAC-West. The Rock, Cal and Lock Haven are all 3-1 in divisional play.
Incidentally, the best start by a Rock volleyball team was in 1993, when SRU won 17 of its first 19 outings en route to the winning the PSAC and regional championships.
Anastasia Urbanik, named earlier in the day as the PSAC-West Athlete of the Week, chalked up 20 kills and four blocks to complement Kirsch's effort Tuesday night, while Jen Blasko recorded 13 kills and 21 digs.
Katie Greco had 10 kills; Louise Schultz added seven kills, four service aces and four blocks; Gwen Oberlin had a team-high 22 digs and Caitlin Hubbard contributed 13 digs.
The Rock returns to action on Friday, when it will open action in the Raider Invitational hosted by Shippensburg University.
