Mansfield, Pa. -
The Rock (1-6 overall, 0-6 PSAC) dropped a 5-0 decision to hosting and ninth-ranked Mansfield (5-6, 3-4 PSAC) in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action Tuesday afternoon.
SRU will now look to snap a six-game losing streak and six-game scoreless drought on Friday when it hosts Bellarmine (Ky.) in a 5 p.m. match on Bob DiSpirito Field at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.
The modus operandi Tuesday was the same as it was for the previous five games: The Rock could not muster a discernible offensive attack against a nationally ranked opponent.
All six Rock losses since an opening-game win at St. Vincent on Sept. 2 have come at the hands of teams ranked in the top 10 of the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division II poll.
In the losses, SRU has been outscored by a 47-0 margin.
Tuesday, The Rock was outshot by a 10-2 margin by the hosts. Mansfield scored two first-half goals before adding three second-half tallies.
Rock goalie Ashley Winkelstecht recorded five saves.
After hosting Bellarmine (3-5) on Friday, The Rock will entertain conference rival Millersville (1-7, 0-5 PSAC) at 11 a.m. Saturday on DiSpirito Field at Thompson Stadium.
Neither Bellarmine nor Millersville are ranked in the NFHCA national poll.
