Game 2 Box Score
Slippery Rock, Pa. -
Five errors proved costly for The Rock softball team Wednesday afternoon, as Gannon swept both games of a doubleheader by scores of 11-0 and 5-1.
Game one was scoreless after one complete inning until two Rock errors led to five Golden Knight runs in the second.
Gannon would tack on three additional runs in the third inning, one run in the fourth and two final runs in the fifth frame to seal The Rock's fate in a mercy-rule shortened contest.
Stacey Rhoades doubled for The Rock, while Andrea Murdock and Kayla Ray each singled to account for the only Rock hits of the game.
Lisa Getgen picked up the loss on the mound, tossing five complete innings and allowing eight hits. Getgen now falls to 6-4 on the year.
The Rock managed to smack seven hits in the nightcap, but could only plate one run as the Golden Knights came out on top 5-1.
Leading the way for The Rock was Ray, with a two-for-three performance from the plate.
Rhoades and Niki Banner each doubled in the game, while Laura Campbell singled home the lone Rock run of the evening.
Courtney Conron and Meghan McHenry also singled for The Rock.
Earning the loss on the mound was Jenna Frieling, who struck out six Gannon batters and scattered 10 hits over seven innings. Frieling now falls to 6-9 on the season.
With the losses, The Rock now falls to an even 20-20 on the season.
The Rock will close out the conference portion of its schedule this weekend when it travels to California (Pa.) Friday for a 2:30 p.m. doubleheader. The Rock will then host Indiana (Pa.) in a twinbill beginning at 1:00 p.m. Saturday for its final home contest of the season.
The Rock entertains hopes of earning a berth in the PSAC playoffs for the first time since the 1984 season. In order to do so, The Rock must win all four of its remaining games, while California must drop its four remaining contests against The Rock on Friday and Edinboro on Saturday. If this were to happen, The Rock would earn the final spot in the conference playoffs due to its head-to-head record against California.
