Slippery Rock, Pa. -
The Rock softball team saw its season record fall to 18-16 (4-8 PSAC-West) after dropping a twinbill Saturday afternoon to No.7 Lock Haven by scores of 3-0 and 16-0 (5 inn.).
The first game saw The Rock and the Bald Eagles battle to a tie through the first four innings, before the visitors would plate all three of its runs in the fifth frame.
The Rock could not muster much offense in the game however, recording only two hits: singles by Meghan McHenry and Laura Campbell.
Lock Haven smacked eight hits in the game.
Freshman Jenna Frieling picked up the tough loss on the mound, firing a complete game and whiffing five Lock Haven batters.
The nightcap saw the visitors explode for 17 hits, eight of them being extra base knocks, and score in every inning in the mercy-rule shortened contest.
Lock Haven pitchers Jeanntte Middlestead and Stephanie Kinch combined to throw a nearly perfect game, allowing no Rock hits and issuing only one walk to Stacey Rhoades in the third inning.
Taking the loss on the mound was Freiling, who threw one and two-thirds innings and allowing six hits. Frieling's record now falls to 4-7 on the season.
The Rock looks to rebound when steps out of conference play and travels to West Virginia Wesleyan on Tuesday for a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
