Slippery Rock, Pa. -
Meghan McHenry smacked her school record-tying eighth home run of the season and Jenna Frieling tossed a three-hit shutout to lead The Rock to a 5-0 win in the first game of Thursday's doubeleheader vs. PSAC-West rival Clarion.
But Clarion bounced back to record its first win of the season with a 3-0 decision in the second game.
The split gives SRU an 18-14 overall record and a 4-6 PSAC-West mark.
Clarion is 1-20, 1-9.
Frieling struck out five and did not issue a base on balls and evened her won-lost record at 5-5.
Laura Campbell led The Rock's 11-hit first-game attack with three hits and one RBI. McHenry (2 RBIs), Niki Banner and Lisa Getgen each added a pair of hits.
Banner slapped a one-out double in the bottom of the first inning and scored on McHenry's RBI single to account for what proved to be the game-winning run.
The Rock managed only four singles in the second game.
SRU returns to action at 1 p.m. Saturday, when it will host nationally ranked Lock Haven on the Harmony Road softball complex.
