Slippery Rock, Pa. - Meghan McHenry swatted a pair of home runs and picked up four RBIs Monday afternoon to lead The Rock to a doubleheader sweep of visiting California U. of Pa. in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division action.

McHenry's three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning of the first game tied the score at 3-3 and ultimately sent the game into extra innings.

A two-out RBI single by Courtney Conron in the ninth inning completed the comeback and gave SRU a 4-3 win.

McHenry's solo home run with two outs in the bottom of the first inning accounted for the first run of the second game. The Rock came from behind to win that game. as well.

Laura Campbell smacked a two-run home run to right field in the bottom of the fifth ining to account for the winning margin in the 5-4 victory.

Monday's sweep could very well be the first ever recorded by The Rock against the perennial PSAC playoff participants.

Adding to the impressiveness of the effort is the fact that The Rock recorded 16 hits in Monday's twinbill -- one day after being held to only one hit in a pair of games at PSAC-West rival Indiana U. of Pa.

The Rock now owns a 17-13 overall record and is 3-5 in PSAC-West action.

California fell to 8-10 overall, 2-4 in division play.

Conron was the only Rock player to have more than one hit in the first game, but Andrea Murdock had a double to also stand out in the six-hit winning effort.

Jenna Frieling picked up the first-game win to improve her season record to 4-5. She allowed three earned runs on seven hits, struck out four and overcame seven bases on balls in a route-going pitching effort.

Liz Pittman pitched the final five innings of the second game to pick up a win in her first decision of the season. She held the Vulcans to only one earned run on two hits and walked one.

California scored three earned runs on four hits off Frieling in the first two innings of the second game before Rock coach Vashion Johnson went to the bullpen and called upon the seldomn-used Pittman.

McHenry, Campbell, Murdock and Lindsey Rodgers had a pair of hits each in The Rock's 10-hit second-game effort.

Rhoades picked up two RBIs with a two-out double in the fourth inning that trimmed the Vulcans' lead to one, 4-3.

The Rock will look to continue its winning ways on Wednesday, when it will host Gannon in a 2:30 p.m. non-conference twinbill on the Harmony Road softball complex.

Gannon currently owns a 22-11 overall record and is among the teams that received votes in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association national poll.
