Clarion hands Rock 78-69 setback

Slippery Rock, Pa. - Joseph Vines had team-high totals of 18 points and nine rebounds Wednesday night in The Rock's 78-69 loss to visiting Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division rival Clarion.

Dejan Jancic added 11 points and five rebounds for SRU (2-23 overall, 1-9 PSAC-West), while Matt Hale scored nine points and handed out six assists.

The Rock trailed by nine points, 40-31, at halftime but battled back with a 19-6 run to take a 50-46 lead with 13:20 left in the game.

The score was tied at 58-58 with seven minutes left to play before Clarion outscored SRU by a 20-11 margin down the stretch.

The Rock returns to action on Saturday, when it will travel to PSAC-West leader Shippensburg for a 3 p.m. contest.

SRU then concludes the 2005-06 campaign with an 8 p.m. home game next Wednesday, Feb. 22, against Indiana U. of Pa.
