The Rock rolled to a 3-0 win Friday afternoon over East Stroudsburg in quarterfinal action of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference playoffs at Lock Haven University.
Jen Blasko recorded team-high totals in kills (16), digs (12) and service aces (4) to lead The Rock effort. Louise Schultz added 12 kills, four blocks and one service ace; Anastasia Urbanik had eight kills, six digs and two blocks and Katie Greco added seven kills, five digs and one block.
Sara Kirsch recorded 43 assists, 10 digs, four service aces and two blocks, while Caitlin Hubbard and Gwen Oberlin had eight digs each.
The win was the 30th of the season for SRU (30-7) and moves The Rock into Friday's 7:30 p.m. semifinal match vs. Lock Haven (27-5).
The winner of that match will face the winner of the other semifinal between California U. of Pa. (27-5) and Kutztown (23-6) in the conference finals at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
SRU is making its first appearance in the PSAC playoffs since the 1994 squad earned conference runner-up honors.
The Rock trailed East Stroudsburg (21-14) by a 4-2 score in Game 1, but then scored five straight points to take a 7-4 lead and never trailed thereafter.
East Stroudsburg tied the score at 10-10 and 18-18 before SRU scored seven of the next eight points to take a 25-19 lead and scored 12 of the final 15 points for a 30-21 win.
SRU was in command throughout Game 2 as it held 3-0 and 7-1 leads early en route to a 30-18 victory.
The Rock scored the first four points of Game 3 and held 10-5 and 19-10 lead en route to a 30-16 match-ending victory.
Notes: Friday's win was The Rock's third of the season vs. East Stroudsburg ... The Rock was 0-2 head-to-head vs. Lock Haven during PSAC-Western Division regular-season competition ... The PSAC playoff champion earns an automatic berth in the eight-team NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional tournament, which will be held next weekend. SRU is currently ranked third in the region behind California and Lock Haven.
