Final Stats
Glenville, W. Va. -
The Rock overcame a 16-point second-half deficit Tuesday night, only to fall by an 84-82 decision at Glenville State.
Erroll Robinson scored 20 points to lead The Rock (0-2) effort, while Jamar Scales chipped in 12 points and guard Matt Schaefer grabbed a team-best seven rebounds.
The Rock held a slim 45-43 lead at intermission before Glenville State (3-0) started to pull away.
The hosts enjoyed a pair of 16-point leads, the latter (71-55) coming with 8:40 left to play.
Eight minutes later, though, a layup by Joseph Vines gave SRU its only lead of the final half, 82-81, with 40 seconds left to play.
Glenville State scored the next three points and then held its breath as a potential game-winning three-point shot attempt by Schaefer at the buzzer failed to tickle the twine.
The Rock returns to action on Monday, when it visits Ashland University (Ohio) for the third of four straight road games to open the 2006-07 season.
SRU then visits West Virginia Wesleyan on Nov. 30 before finally playing a home game Dec. 2 vs. Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference "crossover" rival West Chester.
