Rock secures PSAC playoff berth with 3-1 win at Edinboro

Edinboro, Pa. - The Rock assured itself of its first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference playoff berth since 1994 when it defeated Edinboro, 3-1, in PSAC-Western Division action Saturday afternoon.

The 30-25, 30-32, 31-29, 30-22 win gives SRU a 28-6 overall record and a 5-3 mark in PSAC-West competition. The Rock can finish no lower than third in the division standings and will join Lock Haven and California in the conference tournament.

The PSAC-West champion hosts the six-team conference playoffs, which will be held Nov. 3-4.

Lock Haven (24-5) currently leads the PSAC-West with a 6-1 record heading into a Saturday afternoon match vs. Clarion, while California (25-4) is second at 6-2.

Jen Blasko and Louise Schultz shared team-high honors in kills with 16, while Andrea Campbell and Katie Greco each added 13.

Blasko also had a team-high 22 digs and two blocks, while Schultz had one block.

Sara Kirsch had her usual steady game as setter; she recorded 51 assists, 17 digs and one block.

Defensively, Gwen Oberlin had 20 digs, Caitlin Hubbard 11 digs and Emily Sandora eight digs and four assists.

The Rock closes out its home schedule on Tuesday with a 7 p.m. Senior Night contest against PSAC-West rival Indiana U. of Pa. in Morrow Field House,

SRU then visits Clarion for an Oct. 28 game before heading into the conference playoffs.
