Slippery Rock, Pa. -
Brandon Thompson scored a team-high 23 points Sunday afternoon, but it wasn't enough to lead The Rock to victory.
SRU dropped a 75-59 decision to visiting Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division action in Morrow Field House.
The loss was the 18th straight sustained by the youthful Rock squad, which has only one senior on its 10-man roster.
The Rock will seek to snap the skid on Wednesday when it travels to Indiana U. of Pa. for a 7:30 p.m. PSAC-West contest.
SRU stayed with the Red Raiders for the first 10 minutes of action Sunday and only trailed by five points, 19-14, before the guests went on a 9-2 run to extend their lead to 12 points (28-16) with five minutes left in the first half.
Shippensburg had an 11-point, 32-21, advantage at intermission and pulled out to an 18-point, 43-25, five minutes into the final stanza.
The Rock trimmed the margin to single digits (56-47) with just under seven minutes left to play but that was the extent of an SRU comeback.
Thompson was the only Rock player to score in double figures and tied Dejan Jancic (8 points) for team-high rebounding honors with five.
Jamar Scales also scored eight points, while Eric Novick chipped in seven points and four rebounds in a substitute role. Matt Hale had five assists.
