A second straight 20-plus-point scoring effort by Brandon Thompson and a valiant Rock comeback effort in the final minutes went for naught Saturday afternoon as SRU dropped a 88-82 decision to hosting Lock Haven in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division action.
Thompson scored a career-high 26 points and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds Saturday, three days after he had scored 23 points and had six rebounds in a loss to Edinboro.
Jamar Scales scored 14 points, Matt Hale had 13 points and Joseph Vines added 11 points and nine rebounds Saturday for The Rock. Erroll Robinson and Matt Schaefer each handed out five assists.
Saturday's loss was the 16th straight suffered by The Rock, who saw their overall record fall to 1-17 and their PSAC-West mark drop to 0-3.
Lock Haven won for only the third time in 17 games this winter and is now 1-2 in PSAC-West action.
The Rock stayed with the hosting Bald Eagles for the first 28 minutes before the hosts appeared to take firm control of the action.
Lock Haven outscored The Rock by a 14-3 margin in the span of four minutes to take a 69-58 lead with eight minutes left and held a 14-point (80-66) lead with 2:35 left to play
The Rock cut the margin to four points (84-80) with 0:43 left, but was unable to complete the comeback.
SRU will travel to Clarion for an 8 p.m. PSAC-West game on Wednesday before it hosts Shippensburg in a 3 p.m. divisional game next Sunday, Jan. 29.
