Rock drops 1-0 decision in OT to Shippensburg

Sept. 13, 2005

Final Stats

Slippery Rock, Pa. - The Rock outshot visiting Shippensburg by a 15-6 margin and had a 7-2 advantage in shots on goal Wednesday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference "crossover" action on James W. Egli Soccer Field.

But the Red Raiders (2-4-1) scored the only goal of the game -- a header by Sandy Wasniewski in the sixth minute of overtime -- to record a 1-0 win.

Shippensburg goalie Meredith Yakscoe-Markle, a three-time All-PSAC selection, lived up to her billing against The Rock as she turned away several point-blank shots on goal.

The Rock, which now has a 2-2-1 overall record, will look to rebound on Saturday when it travels to Edinboro to face the PSAC-Western Division leaders in an early-season, high-noon showdown.

Note: Tuesday marked the second straight game The Rock was forced to work overtime. SRU and defending PSAC champion Indiana U. of Pa. battled to a 0-0 tie in double overtime last Saturday.
