Box Score
Colin Scott gave The Rock the pitching effort it needed to come back from a 13-1 deficit Friday, but SRU hit into five double plays offensively en route to a 14-3 loss in its North Atlantic Regional Championship opening round contest to host West Virginia State Friday afternoon.
Scott relieved Nick Armstrong, who was pitching with one out in the bottom of the fifth Thursday before thunderstorms suspended play. He surrendered just one earned run on three hits in 3 2/3 innings while striking out four.
The Rock will now take on reigning Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference champion Kutztown in an elimination game scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on the MSA SportsNetwork.
West Virginia State is scheduled to take on West Chester, which defeated Kutztown 9-1 Thursday, at 12:30 Saturday. Should The Rock defeat Kutztown Friday afternoon, it would take on the loser of the WVSU-WCU game at 4 p.m. Saturday.
Chris Tolliver's (3-for-3) RBI single in the top of the fourth scored Chase Rowe, who had reached on a double, to account for The Rock's first run.
Matt Kozusko's (2-for-5) RBI single scored Travis Trimbur, and Phil Butch reached on an error to score Dave Gonos in The Rock's two-run seventh.
SRU surrendered three runs in the first, four in the second and five in third. A WVSU solo home run in the bottom of the fifth accounted for its 13th run and came just before play was suspended.
