Game 2 Box Score
Lock Haven, Pa. -
The Rock swept a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division doubleheader from hosting Lock Haven on Friday by 7-1 and 8-3 scores to move into first place in the division.
SRU can clinch the division title for the 15th time in head coach Jeff Messer's 20 seasons at the helm if it can sweep a Saturday doubleheader with LHU (16-25, 6-12).
First pitch at Jack Critchfield Field is set for 2 p.m. -- two hours prior to the originally scheduled starting time.
The time change was made to allow additional time to get both games played to completion. Weather forecasts call for rain showers until approximately noon, then a break in the precipitation until around 7 p.m.
Senior Day, Fan Appreciation Day and Kids' Day festivities will be held as scheduled on Saturday, just two hours earlier than originally scheduled.
Friday's games
Chase Rowe led The Rock's offensive attack with four hits in six at bats, including his 19th double and sixth home run of the season. Rowe also picked up three RBIs to improve his season total to 36.
J.D. Lowry extended his current hitting streak to nine games with a pair of hits in each game and picked up one RBI.
Matt Kozusko RBI), Todd Schickling and Brad Wilson (2 RBIs) each had a total of three hits.
Rocky D'Angelo tossed a three-hit complete game in the opening contest to improve his record to 7-1. He struck out five, walked one and allowed one earned run. The route-going effort was his eighth in nine starts this spring.
Dan Herisko tossed a complete game in the second contest and improved his record to 5-1. He allowed three earned runs on eight hits, struck out eight and walked two in pitching his third complete game in as many starts this season.
Rowe (solo HR), Lowry (RBI single) and Kozusko each had two hits in the first game, while Dave Gonos smacked a three-run triple, Tyler Wilson had an RBI double and Billy Wolfe had an RBI single.
Chris Tolliver smacked a three-run triple to account what proved to be the winning runs in the second game. Lowry, Rowe (2 RBIs), Schickling and Brad Wilson (2 RBIs) had two hits each in the game.
Fan Appreciation and Kids' Day
Fan Appreciation and Senior Day events will take place prior to the start of Saturday's first game.
Fans can obtain coupons good for up to four free general admission tickets to the 4 p.m. doubleheader by visiting the Texas Roadhouse in the Clearview Mall, located on Route 8, north of Butler.
Once you get to the Roadhouse, simply ask the wait staff for your ticket coupon.
As part of the Kids' Day festivities any child 15 years of age and under will be granted free admission to the games. There will be prizes for kids in attendance, as well as giveaways.
PSAC playoffs
The PSAC web site reported Friday night that both California and Clarion has already clinched berths in the PSAC playoffs, which will be held May 9-11 at Shaner Field in Boalsburg.
It is The Rock's contention that such a report may not be entirely factual based on tiebreaking criteria printed in the conference handbook.
The Rock is in first place at 11-7 in PSAC-West action, California and Clarion are tied for second at 12-8, Shippensburg is fourth at 10-8, Lock Haven in fifth place at 6-12 and Indiana in sixth place at 5-13.
Shippensburg is scheduled to close out its PSAC-West schedule at IUP on Saturday (1 p.m.). California and Clarion have completed their division schedule.
The possible scenarios for Saturday are too confusing and numerous to attempt to detail here.
Our best advice: Stay tuned to this web site and/or The Rock Sports Hotline at (724) 738-2962 for up-to-the-minute information.
