Rock sweeps California by 4-2 scores

Slippery Rock, Pa. - Chase Rowe smacked a walk-off, three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning Friday afternoon to complete a 4-2, 4-2 doubleheader sweep by The Rock of visiting division leader California U. of Pa. in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division action at Jack Critchfield Park.

The win was SRU's third straight and improved The Rock's record to 27-11 overall, 8-6 in PSAC-West action.

California saw its record drop to 27-14 overall, 10-4 in conference play.

Dave Gonos was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs to lead The Rock's first-game effort.

Matt Messer added an RBI single and J.D. Lowry had a single to account for the only other Rock hits.

Rock first-game starter Rocky D'Angelo pitched his seventh complete game in eight starts this season, struck out a season-high eight batters, allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits and walked three en route to picking up his sixth win in seven decisions this spring.

Matt Kozusko's RBI single in the bottom of the third inning plated The Rock's first run in the second game.

Dan Herisko (4-1) was the beneficiary of Rowe's game-winning blast. He pitched his second complete game in as many starts this season, allowed two unearned runs on five hits, struck out four and walked two.

Rowe also had an infield single to finish the second game with two hits. As a team, The Rock had seven hits in the game.

The Rock and Cal are scheduled to meet in a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday at Falconi Field in Washington, Pa., to close out the teams' four-game season series.

SRU is scheduled to host Westminster and Grove City in 7 p.m. single games on Monday and Tuesday before closing out the 2005 regular-season schedule with a four-game series next weekend vs. Lock Haven.
