April 20, 2005

Slippery Rock, Pa. - Tuesday's doubleheader at Jack Critchfield Park between The Rock and Mercyhurst was halted in the top of the fifth inning of the first game with the Lakers leading 5-3.

No decision has been made as to whether the games will be resumed or rescheduled.

The Rock is scheduled to return to action at 1 p.m. Friday when it will host Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division leader California U. of Pa. in a doubleheader at Jack Critchfield Park.

SRU and Cal are scheduled to close out their four-game season series with a 1 p.m. twinbill Saturday at Falconi Field in Washington, Pa.

Cal is 10-2 in PSAC-West action and holds a two-game lead over Clarion (8-4). The Rock and Shippensburg are tied for third place with 6-6 records, followed by Lock Haven at 4-8 and Indiana U. of Pa. at 2-10.

Clarion and Shippensburg will meet in a four-game series this weekend, as will Indiana and Lock Haven.

Following its four-game series vs. Cal, The NCAA Division II Rock will host neighboring Division III rivals Westminster and Grove City in 7 p.m. single games next Monday and Tuesday.

The Rock will then close out its 2005 regular-season schedule with a four-game series vs. Lock Haven on April 29 and 30.

The top three finishers in the PSAC's Western and Eastern divisions will compete in the conference tournament May 9-11 at Shaner Field in Boalsburg (suburban State College).
