Slippery Rock, Pa. - Rocky D'Angelo pitched a three-hit, complete-game shutout in Friday's first game to lead the sixth-ranked Rock to a 2-0, 5-1 doubleheader sweep of visiting Indiana U. of Pa. in the opening games of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division schedule.

The wins extended The Rock's current win streak to five games and improved SRU's overall record to 20-2.

The Rock is ranked sixth in the latest Collegiate Baseball newspaper NCAA Division II national ranking and seventh in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America national poll. SRU is also ranked first in the NCBWA's North Atlantic Regional poll.

Indiana, which was ranked ninth in the latest NCBWA regional poll, saw its overall record fall to 7-5.

SRU and IUP are scheduled to close out their season series on Saturday (weather permitting) with a 1 p.m. doubleheader in Indiana.

If the games can not be played Saturday, the teams will try to play Sunday.

The Rock is scheduled to host Point Park in a 1 p.m. non-conference doubleheader on Monday at Jack Critchfield Park.

D'Angelo struck out five and walked two in the course of pitching his fifth complete-game in as many starts this spring. A second-team All-PSAC-West selection last spring, D'Angelo has already matched his 2004 win total of five; he is 5-0 this spring.

Junior southpaw Colin Scott also improved his record to 5-0 with a complete-game effort in Friday's second game. Scott scattered eight hits, allowed one earned run, struck out three and did not walk a batter.

The complete-game effort was his second in five starts this spring.

The Rock got both of its first-game runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Brad Wilson led off the inning with an infield single and moved to third on a double to right field by Dave Gonos. Both runners trotted home on J.D. Lowry's two-out, two-run double to right.

Matt Kozusko had the first two Rock hits of the game with singles in the first and third innings.

The Rock managed only five hits off IUP ace Anthony Rebyanski, who struck out seven and walked three.

SRU took quick control of Friday's second game as it scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning and added a tally in the second.

The Rock then answered IUP's single tally in the top of the fourth with the game's final run in the bottom of the sixth.

Phil Butch reached base on an error to lead off The Rock's first-inning rally. Kozusko was then hit by a pitch before Chase Rowe slapped an RBI single down the left field line.

Kozusko and Rowe scored on Brad Wilson's two-run double to right-center field.

Back-to-back singles by Todd Schickling and Lowry and a throwing error on Butch's sacrifice bunt loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the second inning. Rowe brought home The Rock's fourth run with a ground out to the right side of the infield.

The final Rock run scored on a wild pitch after Schickling and Butch had singled, Kozusko reached on a fielder's choice and Rowe walked.

The Rock had seven hits in the second game off IUP's Jim Leonard, who struck out five and walked two.
