Rock dominates Savannah State, 18-3 and 18-0

Final Stats

Savannah, Ga. - The Rock battered Savannah State with 15 hits in its 18-3 win in game one and put 12 hits on the board in its 18-0 shutout in game two to improve its record to 4-2 on the season.

Game one was completed in five innings and game two was called in four innings due to the mercy rule.

Game One:
Melissa Lowrey headlined a list of three Rock players to hit homeruns in game one with her pinch hit grand slam.

Rock leadoff batter Andrea Murdock went 2-for-3 with a triple, homerun and three RBIs.

Carrie Casoni rounded out the list of Rock hitters with a homerun - her second of the season - as she went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and three runs scored.

Niki Banner had two hits in four at-bats with an RBI and Jesse Gump went 2-for-3 with two RBI and three runs scored.

SRU opened the flood gates early with an eight-run first inning and didn't let up as it scored in each of the five innings in game one.

Kalee LoFaso (1-0) pitched three innings, giving up two hits and two earned runs while striking out three to earn the victory.

Brittany Hahn, who was credited with the win in both Rock victories prior to Tuesday, pitched two innings of relief, striking out the side in both innings.

Savannah State committed six errors and managed just three hits for the game.

Game two:
In her first outing of the season, Jessica Vrabel pitched four innings without giving up a run to earn the complete-game victory on the mound in game two.

Jesse Gump led all Rock hitters with three hits, including a triple, in four at-bats. She also had an RBI and two runs scored.

Melissa Lowrey had two hits, an RBI and a run scored, and Carolyn Curcio had three RBIs to go along with her single and two runs scored.

The Rock scored six runs in the second inning, four in the third and eight in the fourth before the game was called.

SRU took advantage of seven Savannah State errors while posting 12 hits in the 18-0 win.

After playing in six games over the last three days, The Rock will take a day off Wednesday as it travels from Georgia to South Carolina for a set of six games beginning Friday against Fort Valley State at 2 p.m.

It will then play three games against three different opponents - Lander, Shaw and North Carolina Central - Saturday starting at 4 p.m.
