Rock sweeps twinbill vs. Mansfield by identical 5-2 scores

Slippery Rock, Pa. - Chase Rowe was 5-for-6 with two doubles and three RBIs Saturday to lead The Rock to a 5-2, 5-2 doubleheader sweep of visiting Mansfield at Jack Critchfield Park.

Phil Butch added four hits in seven at bats and had one RBI for The Rock, which extended its win streak to seven games and improved its season record to 15-1.

The Rock is ranked first in the NCAA Division II North Atlantic Region and eighth nationally by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America and 13th nationally by Collegiate Baseball magazine,

Mansfield, which has lost five of its last six games, dropped to 9-9.

Saturday's games were the first home games of the season for The Rock and opened an eight-game homestand for SRU.

The Rock will host Pitt-Johnstown on Tuesday, entertain Shepherd (W. Va.) on Wednesday and host Indiana U. of Pa. on Friday, all in 1 p.m. doubleheaders at Jack Critchfield Park.

Friday's date with IUP will be the opening games of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division season.

Rocky D'Angelo (4-0) pitched his fourth complete-game in as many starts this spring in Saturday's opening game. He allowed two earned runs on four hits, struck out seven and walked four.

Colin Scott also improved to 4-0 on the year with a complete-game effort -- his first of the season -- in Saturday's second game. Scott also allowed two earned runs, scattered eight hits, struck out one and walked two.

Rowe had a pair of doubles in three at bats and picked up two RBIs in the first game and was 3-for-3 with an RBI in the second game.

Butch had a pair of hits in each game and picked up one RBI in the opener.

Matt Kozusko and Billy Wolfe had an RBI single each to round out the first-game hitting stars.

Travis Trimbur had a two-run single and Chris Tolliver was 2-for-2 with an RBI single in the second game.

The Rock broke a scoreless tie with three runs in the bottom of the third inning of the first game and then answered a two-run Mansfield rally in the top of the fourth with a pair of tallies in the bottom of the fifth.

SRU scored twice in the bottom of the fourth and three times in the fifth frame of the nightcap before Mansfield closed the gap with single runs in the sixth and seventh innings.

The Rock collected 19 hits in Saturday's games to improve its average to .359.
