Feb. 9, 2005

Final Stats

Slippery Rock, Pa. - Mason Glick recorded a "triple-double" and Bill Johnson led five Rock players who posted double-digit scoring efforts with a career-high 33 points as The Rock upset 15th-ranked Edinboro 85-74 at Morrow Field House Wednesday night.

Edinboro (18-4, 5-2) entered the game with a No. 3 ranking in the East Region and was in first place in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division.

By virtue of Lock Haven's upset of Clarion Wednesday, Edinboro retains its first-place standing in the PSAC-West.

Wednesday's win by The Rock avenged a 23-point (83-60) loss in the teams' first meeting on Jan. 19 in Edinboro.

The Rock won for the fifth time in its last eight games and bettered its overall record to 6-17 and 4-4 in PSAC-W competition.

With a win on Saturday at Lock Haven, The Rock would move into at least a tie for fourth place in the PSAC-W. The top four teams in each division of the PSAC qualify for postseason competition.

Glick scored 11 points while recording career highs in assists with 11 and rebounds with 12 to give The Rock its first "triple-double" performance of the season.

Johnson's career-high 33 points came on 6 of 13 shooting from the field and a perfect 18 of 18 from the free throw line. He entered the game with a .892 percentage from the charity stripe, which was fourth-best in the nation as of February 6.

The Rock's other double-digit scoring performances Wednesday night were recorded by Glenn Reepmeyer (16), Jason Bratten (15) and Brandon Thompson (10).

Bratten was a perfect 3 of 3 from three-point range to lead SRU, which shot 50 percent (7-of-14) from behind the arc for the game. Thompson recorded his sixth consecutive double-digit scoring effort off the bench.

Edinboro led by as many as seven points (27-20 at the 7:03 mark) in the first half and held a 40-35 margin at halftime.

SRU outscored Edinboro by a 15-10 margin in the first 7:33 of the second half to tie the score at 50-50 before it began to pull away.

Thompson's free throw with 3:44 left to go capped a 25-8 spurt that gave The Rock a 75-58 advantage and sealed the Fighting Scots' fate.

SRU, which is ranked first in the PSAC in free-throw shooting percentage (.751), shot 81.3 percent on 26-of-32 from the stripe. Edinboro came into tonight's game as the conference's worst free-throw shooting team at 60.5 percent and shot 63 percent for the game.

The Rock's game at Lock Haven is slated to begin at 3 p.m.
