Seniors Bill Johnson and Mason Glick each posted double-figure scoring efforts in their final home game at Morrow Field House, but The Rock lost a 69-53 decision to Shippensburg Saturday afternoon.
The Rock will qualify for the last of four Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division playoff berths if it defeats Indiana U. of Pa. Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. and IUP loses its last contest to Clarion.
SRU drops to 7-19 overall and 5-6 in the PSAC-West with the loss. Shippensburg, which defeated The Rock 68-55 on Jan. 29, improves to 16-9 overall and 6-4 in the PSAC-West.
Johnson's 18 points was a team-high and marks the 16th time he has led Rock scorers this season. Glick had six rebounds and five assists to go along with his 13 points.
Glenn Reepmeyer also scored 13 points and led Rock rebounders with nine boards.
Shippensburg held the lead for much of a tightly contested first half as the two teams closed the opening session knotted at 31-31.
The first part of the second half was much of the same, with the lead changing hands on five different occasions in the first 6:22.
Shippensburg took control of the game when it held SRU to zero field goals for a period of eight minutes and 58 seconds and outscored SRU by a 19-2 margin for much of that time to seal the win.
The Rock shot just 28 percent in the second half and 34 percent for the game from the field. SRU also made just 44 percent of its free throw opportunities during the second session.
Saturday's game was also the last for senior Ryan Yarosik, who contributed two rebounds and one assist in 25 minutes.
