Bill Johnson led The Rock with 21 points and 11 rebounds, but The Rock couldn't overcome a hot shooting Clarion team in a 75-61 loss at Tippin Gym in Clarion.
The Rock remains in the thick of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division playoff hunt with a 5-5 conference record (7-18 overall).
Clarion improved to 17-7 overall and 6-3 in the Western Division.
Saturday's game at Morrow Field House against Shippensburg is a must-win for The Rock, which will look to finish among the top four teams in the Western Division to garner a postseason berth. The Raiders won their game against Lock Haven Wednesday to improve to 5-4 in the PSAC-West, a half game better than SRU.
Mason Glick, who recorded a "triple-double" in The Rock's recent upset over nationally-ranked Clarion, scored 12 points, grabbed five rebounds and handed out four assists. Glenn Reepmeyer scored 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds one game after posting a career-high 36 in SRU's win over Lock Haven Saturday.
Clarion jumped out to an early 19-8 lead at the 14:15 mark and led by as many as 14 (32-18) with 6:23 to go with the help of 5 of 8 shooting from three-point range. The Rock trailed by a 37-26 margin at halftime.
SRU was able to cut the deficit to eight (50-42) with 10:32 to go, but the Golden Eagles answered with a 15-6 spurt that gave them a 17-point advantage it wouldn't relinquish.
Clarion shot an even 50 percent from the field (30 of 60) and shot 47 percent from three-point range (8 of 17) while SRU shot 41 (24 of 59) and 24 (5 of 21) percent respectively.
The Rock defeated Clarion at Morrow Field House on Jan. 19 by a 66-60 margin.
The Rock will honor its seniors at Morrow Field House prior to its 3 p.m. tip-off against Shippensburg Saturday.
