The Slippery Rock men's basketball suffered a heartbreaking defeat at the hands of Mansfield Sunday afternoon at Morrow Field House.
The Rock built a 20-11 lead midway through the first half, but saw Mansfield storm back and take a 45-40 advantage into halftime.
The visitors extended their lead to seven in the opening minutes of the second half, but a jumper by Corey Nesser tied the game at the 9:20 mark. A three-pointer by Matt Schaefer with 1:40 left gave The Rock a 70-66 advantage. Mansfield pulled ahead with a three-pointer with 48 seconds remaining in the game, ultimately sealing The Rock's fate.
The Rock had four players with double digit scoring totals for the game. Leading the way was Matt Hale and Jamar Scales with 16 points each. Erroll Robinson added 11 points, while Schaefer finished with 10 points.
Hale also grabbed a team-high six rebounds, snagged five steals and dished out four assists in the loss.
With the loss, The Rock falls to 1-5 on the season, while Mansfield improves to 4-1.
The Rock looks to return to the winning column on Dec. 17 when it travels to Mercyhurst for a non-conference match-up. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
