Rock drops 74-68 decision to East Stroudsburg

Slippery Rock, Pa. - The Rock men's basketball team fell to 1-4 on the season Saturday, after succumbing to East Stroudsburg 74-68 in PSAC "crossover" action.

The Rock began the game in commanding fashion, scoring the first eight points. However, East Stroudsburg stormed back, taking the a 19-18 lead at the 9:56 mark and held onto a 36-33 lead at the half.

The visitors started the second half on a six point run and built a lead as big as 13 points during the half. The Rock trimmed the lead to four on two free throws by Brandon Thompson with 3:27 left in the game, but could get no closer.

Matt Hale and Joseph Vines each scored 15 points to pace The Rock effort. Vines also had four rebounds and two blocked shots, while Hale handed out three assists.

Also scoring in double figures for The Rock were Dejan Jancic and Jamar Scales with 10 points each. Jancic also had a team-high nine rebounds and three blocked shots.

Thompson added eight rebounds for SRU.

The win improves East Stroudsburg to 4-1 on the season.

The Rock will next play host to Mansfield tomorrow in another PSAC "crossover" contest. Tip off is set for 3 p.m.
