Rock drops 81-70 decision to Ashland

Slippery Rock, Pa. - Erroll Robinson scored a game-high 25 points and Jamar Scales added 14 points in a losing cause Monday night as The Rock dropped an 81-70 decision to Ashland University in non-conference action in Morrow Field House.

The Rock also got a solid rebounding effort from Dejan Jancic, who recorded his second successive double-digit carom total. He grabbed a game-high 10 vs. Ashland two days after he had snared 14 in a loss at Mercyhurst.

Monday's loss was the sixth straight for SRU, which will take a 1-7 record into an 8 p.m. game Wednesday vs. Bloomsburg.

The Rock-Bloom men's game will be the second game of a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference interdivisional women's/men's doubleheader set to start at 6 p.m. in Morrow Field House.

There will be no admission charged for Wednesday night's action as SRU sponsors the first of two "Fan Appreciation Night' events.

The second free-admission date will be Jan. 3, when The Rock women entertain the District of Columbia in a 6 p.m. tipoff.

The Rock was done in by a hot-shooting Ashland squad Monday night; the Eagles shot 56.9% (29 of 51) from the field for the game and made 61.3% percent (19 of 31) of their first-half shots.

Ashland enjoyed a 13-point, 46-33, advantage at the halftime intermission.

The Rock trimmed the margin to single digits on several occasions in the final 20 minutes but was unable to complete the comeback.

SRU shot 38.8% (26 of 67) from the field for the game.
