Mercyhurst rolls past The Rock, 75-43

Erie, Pa. - Jamar Scales scored 14 points and Dejan Jancic grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds Saturday afternoon in a losing effort as The Rock dropped a 75-43 decision at Mercyhurst in non-conference action,

The loss was the fifth straight for The Rock (1-6), who will seek to end its skid at 7:30 p.m. Monday when it hosts Ashland in a non-conference game in Morrow Field House.

Two days later, in the second game of a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference women's/men's interdivisional doubleheader in Morrow Field House, The Rock will entertain Bloomsburg. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m.

Mercyhurst improved its season record to 8-2 on Saturday with its third win in as many games this winter against a PSAC team.

The Rock held a 5-3 lead at the 16:40 mark of the first half in Saturday's game before Mercyhurst took firm control of the proceedings.

The Lakers ran off 15 unanswered points in just over five minutes to take an 18-7 lead with 11 minutes left in the first half.

The hosts extended their lead to 23 points (44-21) by intermission. Scales scored 10 of The Rock's first-half points.

Mercyhurst picked up right where it left off in the second half as the Lakers scored the first 13 points of the final stanza to take a 57-23 lead with 16:30 left.

The Lakers never led by less than 30 points the rest of the game.

Saturday's outcome gives Mercyhurst a 14-13 edge in the all-time series.
