Matt Hale scored a game-high 17 points and Matt Schaefer added 13 points, eight assists and seven rebounds in a losing cause Thursday night as The Rock fell to visiting Ohio Valley University, 72-68, in overtime in SRU's season-opening game in Morrow Field House.
Erroll Robinson chipped in 11 points for SRU and Nathanael McCoy scored 10 points.
The Rock trailed by seven, 39-32, at halftime before it rallied to take a 58-54 lead with 5:48 left to play.
The score was tied at 64-all at the end of regulation time and was knotted at 68-all with less than a minute remaining in overtime before OVU scored the final four points of the game.
The Rock returns to action on Monday, when it will host West Virginia Wesleyan in a 7 p.m. game in Morrow Field House.
Thursday's win was Ohio Valley's second of the season. Both victories came in overtime and against Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division teams.
OVU nipped Shippensburg by a 64-62 score on Tuesday.
