Smith's goals lead Rock past Millersville, 5-4

Slippery Rock, Pa. - Kara Smith scored two goals Saturday morning to lead The Rock to a 5-4 win over visiting Millersville in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action on Bob DiSpirito Field at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.

The win was The Rock's first in 12 PSAC games this fall and second in 14 games overall.

Millersville dropped to 3-11 overall, 2-9 in the PSAC.

The Rock held a 5-1 lead at halftime, then held off a Millersville rally.

Sara D'Amario put SRU on top 1-0 with a goal at the 30:53 mark of the first half.

Millersville tied the score at 1-1 seven minutes later before The Rock ran off four unanswered goals.

Smith scored SRU's second goal at the 18:16 mark of the first period; Kathleen Ross got the third goal off assists from D'Amario and Ashley Stoner at the 16:56 mark and then Smith scored off an assist by Heather Hassinger at the 10:41 mark.

Ashley Hanna scored the eventual game-winning goal at the 6:39 mark.

Rock goalie Tara Bailey recorded eight saves in the game, six of which came in the final half when Millersville outshot SRU by an 11-4 margin.

For the game, SRU outshot Millersville by a 15-14 edge.
