Slippery Rock, Pa. -
Senior running back Josh Kniess rushed for a career-high 210 yards on 29 carries and scored three TDs Saturday afternoon to lead The Rock to a 21-15 win over visiting Millersville in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference "crossover" action on Bob DiSpirito Field at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.
Kniess scored on runs of 43 and 61 yards in the first half and added a two-yard scoring jaunt in the third period to pace a 343-yard Rock (3-4) rushing attack.
Kniess was not the leading rusher in the game, though. Millersville's Juan Jones rushed for 231 yards on 32 carries and scored two TDs for the Marauders (3-5), who had 260 rushing yards in the game.
The Rock won the total offense battle by a 380-210 margin as SRU held Millersville to only 11 yards passing. Freshman quarterback Derek Pope was only 1-for-8 passing with one interception and was sacked seven times for minus-47 yards.
Cory Lacek and Josh Zeisloft each recorded three sacks for SRU, while Clint Forsha recorded one sack.
The Rock's Nate Crookshank was 8-of-15 passing for 80 yards. Colin Golden caught four passes for 37 yards.
The Rock travels to Edinboro for a crucial PSAC-West contest next Saturday.
Edinboro, by virtue of its 20-10 win over Indiana on Saturday, moved into a two-way tie for first place in the PSAC-West. The Fighting Scots (5-2, 3-1) are tied with California (5-2, 3-1), a 41-13 winner over Shippensburg on Saturday.
SRU and Indiana (3-4 overall) are tied for third place with 2-1 PSAC-West marks.
