Shippensburg, Pa. -
The Rock went toe-to-toe with regional power Shippensburg in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division action, but could not record the upset.
Shippensburg (14-5 overall, 4-0 PSAC-W), which received votes in last week's National Association of Basketball Coaches' national NCAA Division II poll and was ranked third in the NCAA D-II East Regional poll, prevailed by a 68-55 margin.
The loss snapped a modest two-game win streak for The Rock (4-16, 2-3).
Four Rock players finished Saturday's game with double-figure scoring totals, led by Mason Glick with 16. Glenn Reepmeyer recorded his eighth double-double of the season with 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Bill Johnson added 12 points and Brandon Thompson 10 points.
The Rock held a one-point edge on three occasions in the first half, the last one coming at the 8:30 mark (18-17), but then went into a scoring drought and found itself down by 12 points (35-23) at halftime.
Hampering The Rock effort down the stretch in the first half was the fact that Reepmeyer, its second leading scorer and top rebounder, was on the bench due to early foul trouble.
Shippensburg extended its lead to 15 points (44-29) with 16 minutes left to play in the game before The Rock roared back to trim the margin to only five (46-41) with 10:22 left.
The hosting Red Raiders then regained control of the proceedings and held a double-digit lead throughout the final six minutes of action.
The Rock returns to action on Wednesday when it will host PSAC-West rival Indiana U. of Pa. in an 8 p.m. game in Morrow Field House.
