Lakewood, Colo. - Junior outside hitter Layna Heilman-Houser had 13 kills and 17 digs to lead a losing effort Saturday afternoon as The Rock fell to Newman University, 3-1, in second-day action at the Colorado Christian tournament. Game scores were 27-30, 30-19, 30-21, 30-28. The loss dropped The Rock to 2-1 on the year. Sophomore outside hitter Lindsay Weber had 10 kills and 11 digs for SRU, while sophomore defensive specialist Gwen Oberlin recorded a team-high 18 kills and sophomore setter Sara Kirsch handed out 31 assists. The Rock takes on Colorado Christian at 7 p.m. Saturday before turning its sights to a pair of games on Sept. 4 at Clarion. SRU will meet Salem International and Glenville State in those matches.
