Junior catcher Brad Wilson's solo home run to straightaway center field to lead off the top of the seventh inning accounted for the winning margin as The Rock nipped hosting Indiana U. of Pa., 3-2, in the first game of Friday's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division doubleheader.
Wilson had two of The Rock's five hits in the game and also had a pair of RBIs.
The win was The Rock's seventh in its last eight outings and improved its overall record to 28-19 and upped its PSAC-West mark to 10-7.
Indiana fell to 12-17 overall, 7-10 in conference play.
Senior southpaw Steve Norris pitched a complete game for The Rock and improved his season record to 4-3. He allowed two unearned runs on seven hits, struck out eight and walked three.
Indiana took a 1-0 lead with a run in the bottom of the first inning before Rock senior third baseman Chase Rowe's RBI single in the third inning tied the game at 1-1. Rowe's hit scored freshman second baseman Phil Butch, who had received a leadoff walk and stolen second base.
The hosts regained the lead with a run in the bottom of the third before Wilson's RBI single in the top of the fourth tied the count at 2-2. Wilson's hit plated senior left fielder Ben Marzullo, who had smacked a one-out double.
